New best Hollywood movies are
almost upon us. The Academy Awards is only a few weeks away, and
millions of movie fans are planning their Oscars Parties with special
guests to welcome their favorites to the Oscar race. With two Oscar
nominees set to walk away with the award for Best Picture this year, it
is important that Hollywood's most loved stars get their fair share of
glory.
Not long ago, I was sitting in an Austin airport on
my way to Los Angeles for a short trip on business, when I saw a flyer
advertising the latest in "Ten New Best Movies". It showed some of the
best in indie cinema. I read through the fine print and saw that the
movie was entitled "The A-Team" starring Dennis Quaid and Kelly LeBrock,
"Point Break" starring Sylvester Stallone and Keanu Reeves, and
"Schindler's List" starring Steven Spielberg and Dustin Hoffman.
If
you think that I am exaggerating about the current 'relevance' of
Dennis Quaid and Kelly LeBrock, you haven't seen what I mean by "the
A-Team". Dennis Quaid and Kelly LeBrock are huge parts of the film
industry, and have been in thousands of films over the years. They are
featured prominently in "The A-Team", "Point Break", and "Schindler's
List", as well as numerous television shows.

Of course, I
wanted to know if the best "Hollywood" movie would be a battle royale
featuring two beautiful young women to save the world from an evil
scientist or a story about fighting evil organized crime? Unfortunately,
I found out that the true story in the movie is a tale of international
conspiracy.
On one hand, I thought the poster for "The
A-Team" was beautifully done, and I enjoyed watching "Point Break" just
as much as I enjoyed the first "Star Wars" movie. However, the movie
turned out to be a farce, and many people had harsh words to say about
it. Perhaps the movie makers should have decided to cast actors who were
'celebrity look alike' as the members of "The A-Team", as they would
have brought more to the table than just the actors in the movie.
"Schindler's
List" did not impress me as much as the trailer made it seem. I do not
know much about the movie, but it did not make the list of 'Top Ten'
movies.
Now, everyone knows that Hollywood's biggest box
office earners win awards. That is because it costs a lot of money to
make movies. However, to me, if the movie has a beautiful story line and
is well directed, it deserves to win the Best Picture award.
